    review:

Dynamism and expression in art: The paintings of Dierk Osterloh Dierk Osterloh has made a name for himself as a painter, especially through his large-format oil paintings. His works fascinate with powerful brushstrokes and dynamic, abstract compositions. What is particularly striking is his preference for using spatulas, which he uses skillfully to create unusual structures and a unique feeling of movement and energy. His works often focus on themes such as power, strength and the interactions of movement. This dynamic approach invites the viewer to delve deeper into the composition and feel a special connection to the works. Art that touches and inspires thought.

In addition to his paintings, Dierk Osterloh reveals a profound examination of existential questions in his sculptural work. Works such as “Death,” “Fly,” and “Under Pressure” use a variety of materials, from organic to industrial, to explore concepts such as mortality, spirituality, and human struggle.
His work “Golgotha” is particularly impressive, combining religious symbolism and industrial elements in a remarkable way. With his rough, weathered choice of materials and the symbolic representation of a wooden figure on an iron cross, Osterloh powerfully represents the relationship between nature and industry.
These sculptures are among his most powerful creations and invite the viewer to reflect.

Photography as a medium of exploration – architecture, nature and people in focusDierk Osterloh’s artistic range is particularly impressive in his photography. Here he manages to capture the interaction of light and form in architectural motifs in a fascinating way. But his landscape photographs also impress with their ability to capture both moments of calm and dramatic forces of nature.
Particularly noteworthy is his series of nude photographs, in which Osterloh innovatively fuses the human body with abstract lines and geometric patterns. These works challenge traditional representations of the human body by placing it in surreal, often architectural contexts.
This exciting combination of the organic and the artificial gives his work a unique tension and aesthetic depth.

CV of the artist Dierk Osterloh

The artist Dierk Osterloh, who was born in Oldenburg/Lower Saxony in 1964, initially studied law.
At the age of 27, he took a new direction in his life and found his way to art.He created his first oil paintings in Freiburg im Breisgau and his passion for artistic work ignited a fire in him that continues to this day.

With Esprit, he changed his place of residence in 1994 and moved to Cologne, to his first own studio.

In 1996, he moved his studio to the well-known “Kunstzentrum Wachsfabrik” in the south of Cologne. Here he found excellent conditions for his artistic development, so that he lived and worked there until 2020.

In this creative phase, sculptures and objects were created in addition to the large-format oil paintings. Photographic work has always accompanied these disciplines.
In terms of content as well as form, the artist has always followed his own path with passion.
The aura of being a master student of a famous artist does not fit into his world view.

The brush that was used at the beginning has given way to the spatula. The painting style is geared towards the implementation of the central elements of power and dynamism. These two themes represent the times in which we live. The oil paint is applied in a pasty manner and then given smears. New worlds are created that fascinate the viewer if he or she allows himself to be seen in this way.

Parallel to his artistic work, he trained as a media designer in Cologne and studied at the Technical Art School in Hamburg.

In Cologne, Dierk Osterloh has earned a national reputation through the design of a city coat of arms  especially for the city council. This design has been realized both in the meeting room of the city council and on the facade of the historic town hall.Since 2020, Dierk Osterloh has lived and worked in the Westerwald near Bonn in the Villa ARTE. In addition to a showroom, there is a sculpture garden in the outdoor area. National and international exhibitions accompany his work
